Trivia Question❓

Crystal River, Florida is well known for its fresh seafood, and one of its most beloved longstanding dining landmarks built its reputation largely on serving a local delicacy pulled straight from the Gulf and the Crystal River itself — what iconic freshwater-meets-saltwater creature, also the namesake of the region's famous annual festival, is the dish most historically associated with the classic seafood restaurants of Crystal River, FL?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Crystal River is celebrating Jimmy Buffett Day in style with a free outdoor concert at Town Square on Saturday, August 30, 2026.

Headlining the evening is the Landsharks — the former house band at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in Key West — promising a breezy, singalong set that transforms downtown into a full-on beachside porch party.

The event is completely free and family-friendly, with activities running throughout the night.

Food and drinks will be available from local vendors and downtown Crystal River businesses, so grab a lawn chair, throw on your best island shirt, and settle in for the night.

The celebration is part of the popular Crystal River Nights concert series, giving locals one more reason to make downtown the go-to destination this summer.

Crystal River, Florida has long been one of the few places in the world where you can slip into the water alongside wild manatees — and guided swim tours make the experience remarkably accessible. Everything you need is included: wetsuits, snorkeling gear, and an in-water guide who stays with your group from start to finish.

That guide also doubles as your photographer, typically capturing dozens of images over the course of the trip, available for you to browse and purchase once you're back on dry land. Group sizes and departure times vary by tour option, and private bookings are available for families or friends who want the boat to themselves.

Quote Of The Day

The river is one of my early teachers. I used to sit by it and wonder at its patience — always moving, never in a hurry, yet arriving exactly where it needs to be.

Secret Little Hack

Skip the Manatee Tour Boats — Use the City Boat Ramp at Hunter Springs Instead

Most visitors book guided manatee tours from the commercial docks, but locals know that the free public boat ramp at Hunter Springs Park puts you within a short paddle of the manatees' favorite warm-water refuge without the crowded tour boats circling overhead. Rent a kayak from any nearby outfitter, launch yourself, and you'll often find manatees resting in the shallows just a few hundred feet from the ramp — especially on cool mornings when they cluster closest to the natural springs. You get the same magical encounter, zero tour markup, and far fewer strangers splashing around you.

The real insider move: arrive before 8 a.m. on a weekday in late November through February. The tour boats don't launch that early, the water is glassy, and manatees are most active in the first light when they surface frequently. Locals quietly call this window the "first glass" — and it's yours for the price of a kayak rental.
